IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: When using any electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be taken, including the following:

1. Read all instructions before using the press. These instructions were written, not only to help you maximize the value of your investment, but to ensure your safety.

2. To ensure proper safety and use of the s1 or d2 press, make sure that all users read this manual. Please make this manual an integral part of your training program.

DANGER: To reduce the risk of burns, fire, electric shock or injury to persons, take the following precautions:

1. Do not touch the bottom surface of the Heat Dek module.
The surface heats to 400 degrees F. Serious injury can result.

2. Do not allow children to use the press without adult supervision.

3. Use the s1 or d2 Press only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use accessory attachments that are not approved by iDek – such attachments could cause injury or damage to the unit.

4. Never operate the unit if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or been in contact with water. Contact iDekUSA customer service for assistance.

5. Keep the power cord away from heated surfaces.

6.
Never drop or insert any object into any opening on the press. Keep hands and foreign objects out of the Slide Arm Channel on the rear side of the chassis.

7. Never use a power cord other than the one that came with your s1 or d2 Press. An improperly rated cord could cause a fire hazard. If the original cord should become damaged, contact idekUSA customer service for a replacement.

8. To safely disconnect the Press, first press the “PWR” button on the control panel, move the power switch (on the rear panel) to the off position (0), then remove the power plug from the outlet.

DANGER: Connect the s1 or d2 Press to a properly grounded outlet only. See grounding instructions.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS: The press must be grounded. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electrical current which reduces the risk of electrical shock. The s1 and d2 presses are equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The 3-pronged plug must be plugged into a matching outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

Do not modify the plug provided – if it will not fit the outlet, have the proper type of outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

Risk of electric shock can result from improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor. The conductor with insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without yellow stripes is the equipment-grounding conductor. If repair or replacement of the electric cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the equipment-grounding conductor to a live terminal.

Check with a qualified electrician or service personnel if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if in doubt as to whether the Press is properly grounded.

Use proper extension cord. Only 3-wire extension cords of proper gauge that have 3-prong grounding plugs and 3-pole receptacles that accept the Press’s plug.

Lengh of Extention
Necessary Gauge
Up to 25 ft.
14 Gauge
25 to 50 ft.
12 Gauge

Loss of power and overheating due to a drop in line voltage can result from use of an undersized extension cord. The table above shows the correct cord gauge size to use depending on length. If in doubt, use the heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.

Replace damaged or worn cord immediately. Make sure the Press’s power cord, and any extension cord, is in good condition.

The Press must be connected to a proper circuit that has an outlet like the one illustrated in the sketch below. The Press has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in the sketch below.

A temporary adapter, which looks like the adapter illustrated in the sketch below, may be used to connect this plug to a 2-pole receptacle as shown if a properly grounded outlet is not available.

The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet can be installed by a qualified electrician. The green-colored rigid ear, lug, and the like, extending from the adapter must be connected to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded outlet box.

DANGER: Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or serviceman if you are in doubt as to whether the unit is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the s1 or d2 Press – if it will not fit the available outlet; have a properly grounded outlet installed by a qualified technician.

PERSONAL SAFETY: When using the iDek s1 or d2 Press, take the following precautions:

1. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN and free from obstruction to the moving parts of the press. A cluttered work area invites Accidents.

2. KEEP CHILDREN AWAY. All visitors should be kept a safe distance from the work area.

3. MAKE WORK AREA KID PROOF with padlocks, master switches, etc.

4. Check the unit before each use. Do not continue to operate the unit if it is not working properly. Call iDekUSA customer service for assistance.

5. Keep all electrical components, such as the Power Cord, Rear Panel components, Keypad, and Heat Dek away from water or other liquids to prevent shock. Do not set anything (other than articles to be pressed) on any part of the s1 or d2. Never place liquids (drinks) on any part of the press.

6. A solid, level surface is essential for safe and efficient operation of the press. There must be adequate clearance for the movement of the Slide Arm assembly.

7. If you intend to install the s1 or d2 press on a mobile cart, the cart must have a suitably wide wheelbase with locking wheels to prevent tipping which could cause personal injury or damage to the press.

8. Do not use any accessory items in conjunction with the s1 or d2 Press that are not approved by iDekUSA – such attachments may cause injury to persons or damage to the Press.

ELECTRONIC FEATURES:

13. Cycle Counter. To monitor productivity, you can keep track of how many articles have been completed using the cycle counter. To view the current count, press the “TIME” and “TEMP” buttons simultaneously. To go back to viewing time or temp, simply press either button. To reset the counter, first make sure it is showing on the display. Then press and hold the “UP” and “DOWN” buttons for 3 seconds and the counter will reset to 0.

14. High Temp Alarm is a built-in warning feature to alert the operator that the Heat Dek temperature is exceeding the normal operating range. If the Heat Dek reaches 425 deg F, the alarm will sound and the display will show “HI F”. Although this setting can be accessed in the System Settings Menu, it is pre-set by iDek at the factory and should not be changed.

15. Overheat Mode is an automatic safety feature that causes the Press to power down completely in the event that a malfunction should cause the Heat Dek temperature to rise above 450 deg F. This is a hard-wired function that cannot be overridden or changed. Low Temp Alarm is a built-in warning feature to alert the operator that the Heat Dek temperature is falling below the normal operating range. If the Heat Dek falls to a temperature of 185°F (LC) or 225°F (SC), the alarm will sound and the display will show “LO F”. Although this setting can be accessed in the System Settings Menu, it is pre-set by iDek at the factory and should not be changed.

16. Offset Adjustment is a factory setting that allows the actual surface temperature of the Heat Dek to be calibrated to the value shown on the display. Although this setting can be accessed through the System Settings Menu, it is pre-set by iDek at the factory and should not be changed.

17. Alarm Volume can be changed within the System Settings Menu (see below). There are two volume choices. Set to “1” in the System Settings Menu for low volume. Set to “2” for high volume.

18. Cycle Done Mute. The first alarm that sounds to indicate a press cycle is done can be muted if the operator is attentive to the display countdown and prefers no alarm. This mute function is accessed through the System Settings Menu (see below) and only affects the first “Cycle Done” chirp. The “Late” alarm sequence (described in #12) remains operational regardless of the Mute mode.

19. System Settings Menu allows certain Press functions to be customized. The System Settings Menu is accessed by pressing the “TIME” and “TEMP” buttons together for 3 to 5 seconds. Once in the menu, there are 5 Settings that can be scrolled through using the “PROG” button (see table).

MOUNTING INTERCHANGEABLE IMAGE DEKS:

20. Interchangeable Image Deks are easily mounted or changed to accommodate a variety of pressing jobs. The bottom side of all Deks has a Receiving Pocket (see diagram) that allows the Dek to be easily locked onto the QuikClik Plate.

21. Landscape or Portrait Orientations (model 238 only) are easily available with the 14 x 17 Image Dek to accommodate a wide variety of garment sizes and transfer orientations. The desired orientation is selected by mounting the Image Dek to the QuikClik Plate using either of the alternate receiving pockets. For easy orientation reference when loading, the 14 x 17 Image Dek has indicator bumps (one for Portrait, one for Landscape) to identify correct alignment.

22. Align the Image Dek with the QuikClik Plate and slide in (as shown) until the Dek clicks into place.

23. Adjust the Dek Height using the Height Adjustment Knob to accommodate a range of thickness from garments to plaques. For transferring onto garments (or other thin articles) the Image Dek should be raised to a higher position. For transferring onto plaques (or other thick articles) the Image Dek should be lowered. To raise the Image Dek, turn the Height Adjustment Knob clockwise. You do not need to precisely fine-tune the height of the Image Dek because the Pedestal has a built in self-adjustment feature. Simply increase or decrease the Image Dek height until the force required to lock the Handle down feels right.

24. Removing an Image Dek from the QuikClik Plate is done by pulling down on the QuikClik Knob and lifting the Dek off.

ROTATING THE HEAT DEK: (Available only on model 238)

25. The Heat Dek can be rotated between Landscape and Portrait orientations as follows:

a: Lower the image Dek to the lowest position possible using the height adjustment knob.
b: Lower the Heat Dek
c: Pull up the Heat Dek Lock Knob
d: Using the finger grip on top of the Heat Dek Cover, rotate the Heat Dek counter-clockwise (when going from Portrait to Landscape).

CAUTION: Do not grip around the edges of Heat Dek to rotate. The underside surface of the Heat Dek is very hot and may cause serious burn injury.

Once the Heat Dek has begun to rotate, release the Heat Dek Lock Knob.
Upon rotating the Heat Dek fully to the new position, the Heat Dek will lock into place.
To return to Portrait orientation, repeat the above procedure rotating clockwise.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS: Because of their advanced design, the s1 and d2 Presses require little maintenance beyond periodic cleaning that is explained in this section.

Keep in mind that, as proud owner of an s1 or d2 Press, you are solely responsible for its maintenance.

DANGER: To reduce the risk of electrical shock, always turn off and unplug the press from the electrical outlet before performing any maintenance tasks, including cleaning.

Cleaning the s1 or d2 Press

On a weekly basis, use a damp cloth with mild soap to clean any of the outer surfaces of the Press that appear dirty. Vacuum around the unit every week, (especially around the back), to prevent the accumulation of dust and dirt that might affect the smooth operation of the moving parts.

CAUTION: Never pour water or spray liquids directly onto the Keypad Console, the Heat Dek or any other part of the Press.

Servicing the s1 or d2 Press

Do not attempt to service the Press yourself except for the general cleaning tasks described above, or replacing the fuse on the rear panel. The S1 or D2 Press does not contain any user-serviceable parts, or parts that require lubrication. For information about product operation or service, contact your authorized iDekUSA dealer.
